Frequently Asked Questions
What are table top role-play games like Dungeons and Dragons?
Magical worlds filled with a wide range of people, characters and environments that allow players to use their imaginations and get absorbed into epic adventures, deadly encounters and diplomatic shenanigans.
Each player controls a single character in the world, while the Dungeon Master sets the scene and controls the players (and monsters) they meet. Players make decisions on the roll of the dice informed by their character sheets, and the adventures unfold.
Are tabletop role-play games difficult to learn?
Not the way we offer them. Our slightly modified versions are simplified, and we have had great success bringing new players up to speed within a few short sessions. Soon you will hear about nothing else.
What do we need to bring?
We provide everything your child needs for their tabletop role-play adventure.
Your child brings their own snacks and drink bottle for our mid-game break.
Can I wait while my child plays?
Yes, we have a wonderful front area for parents to relax and stop.
Sometimes we offer activities in this area for parents as well, e.g a craft project.
This space is an important part of our values, as we wished every medical place, therapy place had one!
What ages do you support?
We support children from age 6 all the way to adults. One of our participants is in her 60’s.
Programs for younger children are shorter and age approriate. Programs for teenagers and adults are 3+ hours depending on the game.
I don't live in Canberra - Can I still join?
Currently, we offer most sessions in Canberra and are expanding into Yass.
We understand there is demand and are planning our expansion at the moment.
We would prefer not to offer online options, whilst they do work, they can be difficult and are not ideal for teaching interactive skills. Also, most parents value this is a time when their children are not on devices.
How will tabletop role-play games help my child?
These adventures require imagination, effective communication and teamwork for characters to survive and teams to achieve their objectives.
Your child will experience a range of social interactions with many different personalities, all within the comfort of make-believe. Pretty soon, your child is interacting, learning and understanding real-world social interactions in a whole new way too.
Does my child need to be able to read, write or do maths?
Write? No. Read? Just a little bit. Character sheets are colour-coded, so if your child cannot read the text, they can use the colours instead. Do maths? Also, just a little. We do simple addition of numbers up to 20, provide calculators, and can always help if required.
Is Dice4Diversity limited to specific disabilities?
Dice4Diversity is diverse. All different abilities are invited and welcomed
Can parents and siblings participate as well?
Absolutely. Playing together often helps families improve their interpersonal communication habits. However, each player is required to pay for their place at the table.
Are you registered with the NDIS?
We are not a registered provider under the NDIS, but many of our parents use their child’s self-managed NDIS plan to pay for their place at the table under support categories relevant to their goals.
